Nathanix Android Resource (Coming Soon)
Posted on June 29, 2010 by John Nathan
With this blog entry I present to you the official announcement of the current creation and future opening of “Nathanix Android Resource”.
Nathanix Android Resource (NAR) was formulated and and unofficially whispered about in December ’09 when our head hybrid developer and senior administrator, Stephen Bird (Birdman), left the Blackberry community for the wonderful world of Android after receiving a Motorola Droid for Christmas. This left our humble community a bit nervous about the future of Nathanix Blackberry Resource (NBR). Luckily, we had a couple exclusive members of our community who crammed as much of Bird’s knowledge into their heads as they could handle and took over the active development of our notorious Blackberry Curve 8330 Hybrid OS (OS 5.0 Based). NBR continued to be successful and grew into a quite reputable development crew. I, John Nathan (Founder of Nathanix), went through some tough times personally leaving me unable to properly manage NBR which ultimately led to my very talented team breaking off (on very good terms as it was the smartest decision to make) to create BBTweaks and continue the development of the Blackberry hybrids there. Leaving me alone with my website all built up for nothing as all Blackberry development was halted until further notice (Any hybrid developers out there want to take over NBR?). If NBR were to ever relaunch it would be to release hybrids for devices NOT developed for by BBTweaks as I do not wish to host any competition to my old development team (there isn’t a group out there who could EVER possibly take on their infamous Curve 8330 and budding Storm 9530 hybrids anyway).
Around the exact same time the above chain of events, my beloved Blackberry Storm2 9550 was stolen out of my car in broad daylight. This forced me to downgrade back to a Curve 8330 donated by an NBR community member (lssanjose) that was in non-working condition. I fixed the Curve 8330 and went about using it and missing my Storm2 9550 everyday. Not that there is anything wrong with the Curve 8330 as it is arguably one of the greatest devices in the history of technology due to its robust, stable and reliable nature but I missed my 9550 (I had truly missed having a keyboard since becoming a 9550 owner and then upon using the 8330 on a daily basis, I grew to miss touchscreen – grass is always greener, right?).
Then my luck took a turn for the better. My father, a Motorola Droid owner, called me and told me that he was sick of Verizon Wireless hidden charges and wanted to switch to AT&T and get himself an iPhone. So he made the switch to AT&T and guess who got the awesome privilege of inheriting a Motorola Droid in near-perfect condition? Yup, I now own a Motorola Droid which marks my retirement from the Blackberry community and arrival into the booming Android scene.
It probably goes without saying that I have already hacked my Droid to pieces. It has been rooted and busybox installed as well as flashed with Clockwork Recovery to an Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) ROM (Droid’s latest official firmware is still Android OS 2.1), installed a low voltage overclocked 1.25GHz kernel (properly managed via the SetCPU app for Android) and an experimental baseband release to give myself more reception bars to make my phone’s status bar nice and pretty, haha!
I am reaching out to my old buddy, Stephen Bird (Birdman), to collaborate with me on the planning, development and deployment of the Nathanix Android Resource community. Upon searching up his alias, I came to find that Bird has already established himself well in the Android community by releasing a quality Android 2.2 (Froyo) ROM for the Motorola Droid. I truly hope that we can join forces yet again and produce the same success we had with the Blackberry endeavor.
At this time, I cannot provide you with a date of completion as development has not begun yet. I will most definitely be calling on my old Senior Administrator, James Porter (Co-Founder of BBTweaks), for some logo and banner development. As for the NBR forums, tutorials and information? They will be archived and backed up yet kept open and accessible through a separate link on the main page.
Well, that’s all for now. I will be sure to post up any new information in regards to NAR as soon as I have it. In the meantime, any Android developers interested in hopping onto our team, be sure to contact me at john@nathanix.com so we can discuss what staff responsibilities will be. Keep checking back periodically to look for any new postings about NAR.
As for the 300+ contacts I had on my Blackberry Messenger (BBM), you all can contact me the same way you did on BBM by installing the Google Talk application on your device and adding john.nathan.inc@gmail.com to your contact list.
Just know that I will never let the Nathanix name go down. It is my brainchild and I will make sure I rebuild it’s name from ashes with the help of some talented Android developers (and a couple prayers, ha!).
Cheers all and be safe! Look forward to posting more info real soon. In the meantime, go over to BBTweaks and register so you can stay on top of the hybrids. Same hybrid, new name and as for me, same name, new game.

New Site For Hybrids + More (BBTWEAKS.COM)
Posted on June 21, 2010 by John Nathan
Hello folks,
Its John Nathan. At one time, this was a great Blackberry hybrid site with a great development team, lots of followers and site members, multiple successful BBM groups, quality hybrids and a lot of fun.
Now it is gone for me…
I was unable to dedicate the time and work that this site needed to be successful. My old team – James, Phil, Nik, Andrew and Jim are some of the most talented developers and amazing people you could possibly meet. It was an honor to work with them while I did. Although this site is no longer active, they are! You can find the whole gang still actively developing those quality hybrids you have all grown to love at BBTWEAKS.COM.
Please update your bookmarks – HTTP://WWW.BBTWEAKS.COM
I wish all of them the absolute best of luck and I am positive that they don’t need it. BBTWEAKS.COM will be a hit because it will be properly run by a group of guys that are as dedicated and talented as hey come.
As for me? Well, I have switched platforms. I am the proud owner of a Motorola Droid and an iPod Touch 64GB (3rd Gen). I am now actively learning how to develop for both of these platforms.
John Nathan once had a name in the Blackberry community… now I will see you on the other side and work on launching my name in the Adroid community. It was a pleasure folks.
For the last time… Cheers folks!
-John Nathan
Remember, please visit BBTWEAKS.COM. The hybrids and the team are not gone… John Nathan and the Nathanix name are… so head over to BBTWEAKS.COM for your fix.

Featured Post: What! I can’t use your 8330 Hybrid because I have an 8330m?
Posted on May 21, 2010 by JamesPorter
“I tried to update my phone with your hybrid but it keeps saying im missing this: net.rim.platform.ecmascript”
We hear this a lot and unfortunately our answer is “You have an 8330m and you can not use our hybrid,” which is usually followed by a “That Sucks” from our end user and we have to agree. The bad thing is that when they ask “Are you gonna make one that will work on the 8330m” we have to tell them “No,” and that really sucks. The fact of the matter is that there is not an 8330m 5.0 OS that has been released or leaked, and with out that there is no 5.0 hybrids. In the beginning of the 5.0 OS for the 8330, hybriders such as mrweeeedbirdman and JustinAdams were throwing 5.0 files on a 4.5 base for the 8330 since we did not have a 5.0 for any 8330. It wasn’t until the 5.0.0.230 base leaked in late September of last year that the 8330 was able to run a full 5.0 OS. Problem #1, as it turns out not everyone could load the leaked 5.0 on their devices and it didn’t take too long to figure out it was because of that pesky “m” after the 8330. So, if you were blessed with an 8330m (which most seemed to be coming from Sprint), you would not be able to partake in the 5.0 fun. And so the never ending hope continued as the 8330m users waited for a leaked or official OS that could be used on their devices, and they waited, and they waited… CrackBerry then reported in late October on RIM’s announcement of devices to get a 5.0 update, and that further fueled the false hopes of the 8330m users (and 8330 users) of an official 5.0 OS. What that announcement did not say was that it was up to the carriers to release the OS. So far, the only Official 5.0 OS to be released is for Boost Mobile (5.0.0.438) and that is for the 8330, again the “m” was left out. To date the 8330 has only seen 2 different versions of the 5.0 OS and those are the original leak of 5.0.0.230 and the official 5.0.0.438 from Boost Mobile (Boost Mobile Originally shipped the 8330with 5.0.0.419, but quickly upgraded to 5.0.0.438), neither of which can run on the 8330m.
I really don’t know the exact reason why the 8330m is so different from the 8330 or even why there was a need for the 8330m. Some people first said it had to do with ESN vs. MEID, but my device had an MEID number and was an 8330, so that is not the case. In any case, it seems that there is a piece of hardware or very low level software difference that keeps the 8330 OS from loading on the 8330m.
All hope has been lost by this developer in ever seeing another 8330 5.0 leak, let alone another official 5.0 OS. So, what is it that I have been rambling on about this whole time? The odds of the 8330m ever getting to use a 5.0 hybrid (or even leaked) OS is less than you being struck by lightening 5 times while carrying a large iron rod. Okay, so this doesn’t sound that bad, but think about it. If you get struck once by lightening while carrying a large iron rod, would you carry a large iron rod in another lightening storm or even go out in a lightening storm… I didn’t think so.
So for you 8330m users, my suggestion is either you take the first opportunity to upgrade to a native 5.0 device, you live with 4.5 (it’s not really that bad), or you try out one of the 4.5/5.0 hybrids that might be out there. At one time we thought we might have someone to develop the 8330m 4.5/5.0 hybrid, but that has never matured into a realization. It is unfortunate, but sometimes that’s the way things go. We’ll let you know if we ever host something up.

Nathanix BB Resource & BBHybrids.net are now partners!
Posted on April 20, 2010 by John Nathan
It is with great pride that I write to inform you that after some talks between myself and the administration over at BBHybrids.net – we have decided to work together as partners/affiliates. In the blackberry hybrid scene, BBHybrids.net is the big name. Lyracidal & irtehun’s quality hybrids have graced devices all over this world for a while now and their quality work and precision has not gone unnoticed by us at Nathanix.
We pretty much had two options on how to interact with the other show in town. We could have started an immature flame war where we put down quality work for no reason and attempt to take over the whole scene like a bunch of renegade geeks or we diplomatically introduce ourselves as prospective partners instead of rivals. We chose to team up with the great minds of BBHybrids.net in order to focus on our common goal – to develop and deploy quality hybrid Blackberry operating systems for the end user to the get the very most out of their precious device.
This is a great day for us here at Nathanix Blackberry Resource as this means we have expanded our audience, provided additional support for our users due to the addition of the BBHybrids.net co-founders acting as satellite administrators for us, increased selection of Nathanix-endorsed hybrid operating systems for a wider selection of devices.
On behalf of the Nathanix Blackberry Resource community & staff, I welcome the BBHybrids.net community & staff to our site and look forward to working with all of you closely in the future.
Cheers to all of you!
(I will expand this blog entry tomorrow – I am exhausted!)

Nathanix 8330 Hybrid V438.8.0 RELEASED!
Posted on May 18, 2010 by JamesPorter
Once again, I had nothing to do with this build, but that is okay. Nik and the guys are doing great with the 8330 hybrid without me. Some may say that they maybe never really needed me… Either way it seems this build is yet another good one and one that hopefully you would expect from our team. A huge thanks again goes out to Nik and the team for putting this thing together.

Nathanix 9530 Hybrid V591.1.0 RELEASED!
Posted on May 11, 2010 by JamesPorter
Round 2: It seems that there was at least a little interest in our first 9530 hybrid (9530 v419.1.0) and since we have been working very hard on getting a new hybrid completed using the 5.0.0.591 base we decided that it was time to release another one. This is based on the 5.0.0.591 base for the 9530, but uses a full 612 Java and includes 662, 669, and 676. Most of the files are 676, 225 files to be exact which is about 80% of the OS, so this is about as complete as you are gonna get without loading the full Java (which will go, but there are issues). No Keyboard bug in group chat and no end call button issue. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think. Thanks again for your support!

Backup Assistant for 8330 Verizon Wireless
Posted on May 4, 2010 by sambowomble
Backup Assistant VPL for Verizon Wireless is being pushed to 8330 devices it seems so far.
This is definantly a good morning suprise as well as alot of 8330 owners that felt all was lost with the newer BlackBerries getting all the fun. Backup Assistant by FusionOne looks as though to be pushed out to Verizon Wireless devices. I can confirm this as well as a few others. Version 1.5.4.1.106. Have a happy day.
